We’re looking for a Principal Analog Mixed-Signal Engineer. As a Principal Analog Mixed-Signal Engineer, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to define and enable the world’s best quantum computers and keep IonQ at the forefront of the industry. 


  • Provide technical expertise in the development of high performance board and system level assemblies - from concept to production. 
  • Work with cross functional teams to define subsystem requirements and interfaces 
  • Perform circuit design, simulation, and testing of analog and mixed-signal electronics for applications such as ion trap electrode voltage control and high speed waveform generation. 
  • Create schematics, board layouts, generate drawings, BOMs, and documentation
  • Write test procedures, perform board and system level testing and debug, document test results


  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering and at least 15 years of related experience
  • Proven track record designing, simulating, and verifying analog and mixed-signal electronics for low noise applications
  • Detailed understanding of all aspects of analog/mixed signal chain (power supplies, voltage references, PLLs, amplifiers, filters, and data converters)
  • Proficient with circuit simulation and modeling tools
  • Schematic capture with Altium Designer (preferred), OrCAD, or Allegro
  • Detailed knowledge of circuit board fabrication and assembly processes
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI circuit, chassis, and system design techniques
  • Proficient with signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other complex lab equipment
  • Familiarity with techniques/equipment low noise (< 1uVrms) measurements
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers
  • Success working collaboratively in a team environment


Given the nature of our business, we will maintain our headquarters which are located down the street from the University of Maryland. Our office is bright and open and a fun, collaborative environment, where we value each other’s unique qualities. IonQ is a five-minute walk to the Metro, which takes just twenty minutes to get to Washington, DC. Currently, we are encouraging work-from-home with office and laboratory visits only as needed.
