IonQ is developing the world's first fully expressive, full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology. These computers are poised to unlock the staggering potential of the quantum realm and help remake industries like medicine, materials science, simulation, finance, strong A.I., machine learning, cryptography, high-performance supercomputing, and more.

Quantum computers are a revolutionizing technology — they will transform business, society, and the planet for the better, and IonQ is at the forefront of this revolution. We’re proudly supported by high-quality investors like Amazon Web Service, Columbia Capital, NEA, ACME, and more.

We are seeking an Associate Designer to help us build, brand, and market the world’s most powerful quantum computing platform. Our ideal candidate is an early-career designer with a strong background in brand and marketing design who is looking to expand their skills in a more product-focused direction. You will own the design and creation of our brand and marketing materials, and help design and ship end-to-end features, interfaces, and user experiences, using your brand expertise to help inform a consistent, accessible, usable, and beautiful aesthetic across our software and hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce a variety of brand and marketing-focused work (mostly digital, some print and environmental), from informational content for our website to high-touch business development materials, to business cards, t-shirts and trade show booths.
  • Work with the greater design team to support research, conceptualize, design, and ship product features, across our suite of products.
  • Collaborate and communicate with business development, physicists, external vendors, engineering, and your fellow designers.
  • Effectively self-manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.

Required:

  • 1+ years of producing high-quality, consistent marketing and branding material, preferably with a focus on cross-channel and/or digital marketing experiences.
  • Some shipped product and/or web design work, demonstrating aptitude in considering more than just the fit and finish of design work.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates the above two bullet points.
  • Enough familiarity with frontend code (HTML, CSS, JS) to understand the tradeoffs and relative difficulties of designing digital products.
  • Excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to non-designer stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • A continued commitment to learning; a need to push your limits and continuously improve.
  • Skilled at giving and receiving critical feedback, can participate with humility in productive debate.

Desired:

  • Interest and experience in data visualization.
  • Experience managing and implementing brand standards across multiple platforms and touchpoints.
  • A strong understanding of fundamental interaction design principles
  • Experience with front-end code (CSS, HTML, potentially JS)
  • Experience with interactive prototyping tools like Flinto, Figma, or InVision
  • Copywriting experience and ability

Location:

Given the nature of our business, we will maintain our headquarters which are located down the street from the University of Maryland. Our office is bright and open and a fun, collaborative environment, where we value each other’s unique qualities. IonQ is a five-minute walk to the Metro, which takes just twenty minutes to get to Washington, DC. Currently, we are encouraging work-from-home with office and laboratory visits only as needed.

IonQ reflects the globally diverse audience that our products and technology serve. We believe that in addition to hiring the best talent, a diversity of perspectives, ideas, and cultures leads to the creation of better products and services. We hire people with a broad set of skills who are ready to take on some of humanity’s greatest challenges and make an impact on millions, if not billions, of users.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, we encourage you to apply.
